Places to eat in Mombasa

During my recent visit to the Kenyan coast,I had the chance to explore Mombasa CBD,places of interest, places to eat and things to do.The previous times I have been at the coast, I have been staying in hotels hence never really got the chance to explore fully.

If you are on a budget and still keen on eating nice food, then consider these places during your next visit.

1. The Fort Restaurant and Pizzeria

This by far was my best place to eat for three reasons.

It is directly opposite Fort Jesus, right at the entrance of Mombasa old town and two or so minutes from the city center.

The interior decor will impress anyone with a keen eye for detail and simplicity. Nice wall hangings telling the story of Mombasa Old Town, wooden dining tables and chairs immaculately covered by white cotton table clothes and rustic vintage lanterns dotting the different tables, stylish chandeliers, a raised ceiling made of wooden planks painted in black giving a sharp contrast to the Snow White silk emulsion painted walls.

Their diverse menu and tasty food.

2.BlueRoom Restaurant and Icecream Parlour.

This was my one of my regular eating spot for fast food and Swahili dishes. What stood out for me most was space, a high roof, a WiFi/working space and an attentive staff. For a majorly fast food joint, the price is slightly higher but totally worth space, icecream, coffee and positive vibes.

3.Barka Restaurant.

Now this is it. Ultimate place to eat if you want quality, quantity and value for money. The place has nice Swahili dishes like Pilau,Biryani, spiced chicken, chicken tikka,Shawarma etc…

The Restaurant is located in the CBD at a place called central.

Bonus two; out of town Restaurants

Apart from the three Restaurants at the CBD,my two all time favorite places to visit while at the coast are;

4.Yul’s Aquadrom

Why?

Located at the Beach in Nyali, has the widest variety of meals,Italian Icecream, ambience, good music and positive vibes.Their burgers and pizza are my absolute picks.

5.The Moorings Bar and Restaurant

I will write an entire blog post about Moorings floating Restaurant. However for now if you want meals with a view, best sunset, and chilled vibes, then look no further than the Mooring Floating Restaurant in Mtwapa. Don’t forget to try their clay baked chicken and a sunset cruise.

There you have it!

Have you been in any of the places above? How was your experience?
